Autumn Remembrance Day

We had such a great time performing at the Autumn Remembrance Day at the Sweet Virginia Bee Farm yesterday, September 21.  It was a pure blue sky, air was so fresh, flowers were everywhere, and we got to share the stage with some wonderful dancers and musicians at this picturesque civil war era farmhouse situated on a 1000 acre lake!  We performed ‘Motion in String’ – 2nd section ‘Unceasing.’  Here are some beautiful photos from the event:

The 2015 Remembrance CabaretThe 2015 Remembrance CabaretWe had a wonderful time performing ‘Motion in String’ at The 2015 Remembrance Cabaret!  This year the cabaret was happening on June 13 at Westfield High School Auditorium. We were excited to return to this special event and joined many other talented performers.  It was always a great pleasure seeing everyone at this very special event especial The Samahas and Ashley and Phoebe who did an incredible job to make this evening possible..  It’s a FREE event! There were many delicious baked goods and fantastic silent auction items. Doors opened at 6pm for the bake sale and silent art auction and performance at 7 pm. We were so thrilled to join Angel Fund to celebrate the vibrant life of Reema Samaha through dance, music, art and comedy.
Proceeds from the Cabaret benefit the Angel Fund and the Reema J. Samaha Memorial Scholarships given to seniors at Westfield and Herndon High Schools.

‘Six Degrees’ at Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival

With Sculptor Patick Dougherty 4/20/2015

With Sculptor Patick Dougherty 4/20/2015

Gin Dance Company (GDC) is humbled and thrilled to be will be a featured performer at the 2015 Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival presenting our new work, Six Degrees, in response to extraordinary artist Patrick Dougherty’s amazing sculpture which will be installed at the Reston Town Square Park.  Just as the Dougherty sculpture is comprised of individual saplings intertwining with each other to give shape and form to an overall structure bringing a level of meaning and purpose that any one sapling could never have done on it’s own.  I explores through my choreography of Six Degrees how we, as individuals, intertwine our lives with those around us, and they with those around them, and so on until we form a network that gives meaning, structure and purpose that any one individual could never have accomplished on their own.  I will bring in Gin Dance Company Dancers along with an extended cast that will transform Reston Town Square Park into a living theatrical experience not to be missed. The performances will be on May 16, at 1:00 p.m. and on May 17, at 11:00 a.m.

The much anticipated annual Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE)’s Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival is a nationally top-ranked fine art and craft festival that typically attracts 30,000+ patrons. This Festival is made possible by the fantastic community sponsors, Reston Town Center Association and the Reston Community Center and it allows GRACE — the area’s largest non-profit dedicated exclusively to enhancing community life through excellence in and the promotion of the visual arts — to offer its free-to-the-public exhibitions at its Town Center Gallery and art education programs across all ages (GRACE Art is currently in over 40 schools regionally impacting over 20,000 children). The Festival is open to the public Saturday, May 16, 10am – 6pm and Sunday, May 17, from 10am – 5pm. It’s such a special opportunity, come and experience Arts differently.  https://gindance.com/events/

Opening Night!!

Last night was the opening night of the Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival.  I had the honor joining the Executive Director of the Atlas Performing Arts Center, Doug Yeulle, to do a brief introduction before the opening performance by Furia Flamenca Dance Company.  It was a fabulous performance full of energy and passion.  LOVED IT!!!  Olé!!  Even with the frigid cold weather outside, the house was packed and the energy was running high inside the warm and cozy Atlas Performing Arts Center.  We got to meet many artists and fans… and of course it’s always a pleasure seeing the amazing Artistic Director of the Atlas INTERSETIONS Festival, Mary Hall Surface and her great team.  We are thrilled and excited to be returning to this fantastic festival which features over 700 artists in more than 100 performances in a celebration of the energy and diversity of artists and audiences from DC and beyond.  We’ll be presenting our original production of ‘Hear Me Now!’ comprised of four innovative and fun pieces including ‘Face to Face’, ‘Just One’, ‘Motion in String’, and ‘That’s Mozart’.  It’s going to be a captivating and inspiring afternoon of dance.  Come join us!!
